POETRY
CONTEMPORARY ROMANIAN POET
Alexandru Vlad was born in 1991 in Rupea and lives in Cluj-Napoca. He writes poetry and prose and makes documentary film — two practices that feed each other in his work. His first volume, "The Echo of the Sea", appeared in 2016, followed in 2026 by "The Last Fragments".
The poems return to a few things: a childhood in a Transylvanian village, the sea seen late and from a distance, the people who leave and the objects left behind. This is not a poetry of statement but of patient observation — the image is left to do its own work, unexplained.
The filmmaker’s training shows in how the poems are built: short frames, abrupt cuts, attention to light. He holds a PhD in Cinematography and Media from Babeș-Bolyai University and teaches film to teenagers at the Children’s Palace in Cluj, where he runs the Film-TV Circle.
